Zelensky's call with Macron interrupts media briefing

An unexpected phone call interrupted Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists. The Ukrainian president answered, then apologized to the caller, informing them that he would call back in about a dozen minutes. It turned out that the call was from French President Emmanuel Macron.

A segment of Volodymyr Zelensky's statement to journalists, unexpectedly interrupted by a phone call, was published online. The Ukrainian president decided to answer the phone.

"I'm sorry, but I'm talking to journalists now"

Shortly afterward, French President Emmanuel Macron appeared on the other side, whom Zelensky addressed right after answering the call. "I'm sorry, but I'm talking to journalists now. Can I come back in 15-20 minutes, please?" he asked the French leader.

The recording also shows his comments just after the exceptionally brief conversation ended. Zelensky stated he "was just talking with President Macron, with Emmanuel." He also added that the two leaders have phone conversations roughly once a day.

Emmanuel Macron spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky, among other times, at the end of February, right after a dispute at the White House.

During their meeting, Trump and Zelensky suddenly disputed. The previously planned signing of a bilateral U.S.-Ukrainian minerals agreement was postponed, and Zelensky left the White House. Shortly thereafter, the Élysée Palace stated that President Emmanuel Macron spoke with the Ukrainian leader.

On Monday this week, Volodymyr Zelensky also reported a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron. They were said to discuss, among other things, a planned Tuesday conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Macron posted about his conversation with the Ukrainian president that day on platform X.
