Canada's new PM Carney and Macron unite for Ukraine peace
The French president, Emmanuel Macron, and the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, met to discuss the situation in Ukraine. Both countries are demanding "clear commitments" from Russia regarding regional peace.
Macron noted that Canada supported Ukraine following the Russian aggression in February 2022. Both countries participated in a conference organized by the United Kingdom. He emphasized that peace should be accompanied by security guarantees to protect Ukraine from "any new Russian aggression" and to ensure the security of all of Europe.
Macron stressed that Canada and France want a lasting and solid peace accompanied by stable guarantees that will protect Ukraine from new Russian aggression and ensure the security of all of Europe. He added that France and Canada will continue to demand clear commitments from Russia.
Prime Minister Carney wanted to strengthen relations with "reliable allies" in Europe, emphasizing that it is now "more important than ever." He referred to Canada as "the most European of non-European countries" and stressed the importance of maintaining positive relations with the United States.
Visit to Europe
Paris was the first stop on Carney's European tour following his assumption of office.
After a working meeting with Macron, the Prime Minister of Canada visited Notre Dame Cathedral. He will then travel to the United Kingdom to strengthen partnerships with European countries in light of President Donald Trump's actions that are perceived as threatening Canada's sovereignty.
Canada, one of Kyiv's partners, is considering sending forces to Ukraine to guarantee a possible ceasefire. France and Canada's joint efforts aim to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
