Zelensky draws a line: No recognition for Russian-occupied lands

Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his stance on the recent conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The President of Ukraine made it clear that Kyiv will not recognize the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia as part of Russia. He emphasized that this is a "red line" for Ukraine.

Zelensky addressed questions about American-Russian discussions during a press conference while visiting Helsinki.

- Every negotiation is a chance to finish the war - Zelensky declared. He further stated, "So far, the Russians are not proving that they are ready to end the war."

Shortly after Trump's phone call with Putin, an alarm was raised in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Tuesday evening. Explosions and anti-aircraft artillery fire were heard.

Journalists asked Zelensky whether Ukraine has any "red lines" in potential talks with Russia. - The red line for us is if the temporarily occupied territories will be considered Russians. We will not agree to that, - he replied.

Zelensky stressed that achieving a total ceasefire both in the sky and on the ground is crucial. He added that Ukraine needs guarantees that the war will not return to its territory.

The President of Ukraine also demanded the release of thousands of prisoners held in Russia. Zelensky emphasized that this term is unconditional.
