Trump's unpredictable stance raises hopes, concerns for Russia
The election of Donald Trump as President of the USA sends "positive signals," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Sunday. He added that Trump is "less predictable, so it's still necessary to wait and see if he keeps his campaign promises."

Many pieces of information reported by Russian media or authority representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war waged by the Russian Federation.
Peskov stated that Trump "at least speaks about peace." He doesn’t talk about confrontation, nor does he express a desire to deal Russia a strategic defeat. This sets him apart favorably from the current administration, added the spokesman for the Russian leader.
Trump "less predictable"
During the campaign in the USA, Vladimir Putin stated that "President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are better for Russia because they pursue a predictable policy."
Peskov added that Trump is "less predictable, so it's still necessary to wait and see if he keeps his campaign promises."
Putin ready to resume contacts with the USA
Putin congratulated Trump on Thursday. Moscow observers believe that the two may speak by phone even before Trump's inauguration on January 20th. Putin expressed readiness to resume contacts with the United States.
Putin and Biden have not spoken since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and diplomatic relations have reached an all-time low. This year, there have been lower-level contacts concerning prisoner exchanges, and military leaders maintain sporadic contact.
Trump has long claimed that he could quickly end the war in Ukraine, perhaps even before inauguration day. His opponents criticize him for being too close to Putin and other autocratic leaders.
