The coffee maker is an appliance that many of us use daily. Like any other device, it requires maintenance. Regular cleaning of the coffee maker is crucial not only for preserving the quality of the coffee it brews but also for extending the lifespan of the machine itself.

Each use leaves coffee residue and water deposits inside, which can degrade the beverage's flavor and potentially damage the internal components. Furthermore, components that are exposed to water can harbor bacteria and develop mold.

How to clean a coffee maker?

Before cleaning your coffee maker, it's important to prepare adequately. The first step is to unplug the device from the electrical outlet. Then, empty all containers of water and leftover coffee. Make sure that movable parts such as trays and filters are accessible, as they need to be removed and washed thoroughly.

You can use household products for cleaning, such as vinegar or citric acid, which are excellent for removing scale. Prepare a few soft cloths and a gentle sponge as well to clean more delicate surfaces.

How to clean the coffee maker with vinegar? Vinegar is highly recommended for cleaning coffee makers. Mix vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio and pour the solution into the water reservoir. Run the coffee maker to circulate the vinegar solution through the system, which will remove scale and deposits.

If you're concerned about the strong smell of vinegar, you can use citric acid, which is equally effective. Dissolve two teaspoons of citric acid in a container of water and run the coffee maker to flush the mixture through the system. Afterward, rinse the system with clean water to ensure all residues of the solution are removed.

While cleaning, also pay attention to the nozzles and milk frother. Milk residue that remains can lead to clogging and the formation of stubborn deposits. Therefore, it is crucial to clean the nozzles and frother after each use. Utilize a soft sponge and mild detergent to wash all components thoroughly.

How to take care of a coffee maker?

First and foremost, remove the coffee grounds from the container and rinse the tray after each use. Wiping the milk frother after each use prevents residue buildup, which can become difficult to remove over time. If your coffee maker has a milk container, be sure to wash the container and the milk tube daily. Regular cleaning will not only prolong the lifespan of your coffee maker but will also ensure the coffee tastes perfect.
