Tackle bathroom mold: Simple solutions with everyday items
Have you noticed black spots on the silicone in your bathroom? This is a sign of mold presence, which can negatively affect your health. Ignoring this problem is not a good decision.
Black mold on bathroom silicone is a well-known issue. When you notice it, it's important to take action as quickly as possible because this is the only way to prevent it from spreading further and make your bathroom safer and more hygienic.
Where does mold come from?
Where does this mold come from? In short, mold appears due to excessive moisture, often in bathrooms. Insufficient ventilation in the room promotes the formation of black spots on the silicone, for example, under the shower or around the sink. Additionally, mold can develop where the silicone becomes unsealed.
Water getting under the seal creates an ideal environment for mold, which grows from the bottom. Regardless of its origin, it's good to know how to effectively remove it to avoid health problems.
One might think that removing mold requires strong chemical agents, like chlorine. However, this is not true. There are home methods that are safer for your health and the environment. You can use products you probably have in your kitchen to remove mold.
Vinegar. Simply mix vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, spray the affected areas, and wait about 15 minutes. Then, wipe the silicone with a damp cloth.
Baking soda or baking powder. Add a little water or tea tree oil to create a thick paste. Apply it to the mold, wait 15-20 minutes, and then scrub the seal with an old toothbrush.
Lemon juice. Use it in the same way as the vinegar-water mixture.
If none of the above products is available, try another home method. Use toothpaste, preferably whitening with activated charcoal. Apply it to the silicone joints, wait 15 minutes, and then scrub with a toothbrush. The task should go smoothly and effectively clean the seals.
