Revive your towels' softness with this simple home trick
Soft as a cloud, fresh-smelling, and absorbent—these are the qualities we associate with home comfort when it comes to towels. Unfortunately, after a few washes, towels often lose their fluffiness, become stiff, and no longer absorb water well. Thankfully, there's a simple, homemade way to rejuvenate them.
There's no need to spend a fortune on new towels or special products. Simple home remedies, such as washing with baking soda or vinegar, can help towels regain their original softness, absorbency, and freshness.
A home method for hotel-like towels
Over time, towels lose their original qualities. Even high-end towels, which initially feel as soft as hotel linens, can become rough and unpleasant to the touch after several washes. The main culprits are the buildup of detergents, residues from softening agents, and hard water.
The simplest and most cost-effective way to restore hard towels is to use products readily available in your kitchen: baking soda and distilled vinegar. The key is to use them separately, not in the same cycle.
Option 1: Baking Soda
Place 1/2 cup of baking soda directly into the washing machine drum. Set the washing cycle to 140°F. Baking soda helps soften towels, neutralize unpleasant odors, and effectively remove built-up detergents.
Option 2: Distilled Vinegar
Pour 1/3 cup of distilled vinegar into the compartment for fabric softener. Vinegar has disinfecting properties, refreshes fabric colors, and also removes chemical residues.
Moreover, avoid drying towels on a radiator or in direct sunlight—high temperatures can cause the material to harden. The best solution is air drying or using a gentle tumble dryer cycle.
