Robert Prevost is the first cleric from the USA to become pope. As Leo XIV, he will lead the Catholic Church worldwide, guiding it through very challenging times full of conflicts, tensions, and changes. The Holy Father will certainly meet with many leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, who has already congratulated the new pope on his election and expressed hope for a meeting.

Meanwhile, looking at Leo XIV's social media activity before he became pope, it can be concluded that he was a critic of Donald Trump's policies. The New York Post scrutinized the pope's posts. Here's what was found.

Here are Leo XIV's posts before he became pope

Leo XIV, still as Cardinal Robert Prevost, posted on his @drprevost account on platform X. In his last post on X before being elected by the conclave in the Sistine Chapel, he reposted an entry from a Catholic commentator from Philadelphia, Rocco Palmo, who on April 14 criticized Trump’s cooperation with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele regarding the deportation of illegal immigrants.

On February 3, Prevost shared a link to an article in the National Catholic Reporter titled "JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others." This article criticized a statement by the U.S. Vice President, who, in an interview for Fox News on January 29, said: "There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world. A lot of the far left has completely inverted that."

During Trump's first term, Prevost shared posts criticizing the U.S. President's immigration policy. He reposted entries accusing the U.S. President of igniting "racism and nationalism."

The new pope also shared various messages reflecting the Catholic Church’s stance on government policy, including opposition to abortion, the death penalty, and euthanasia, as well as a post condemning "gender ideology" in schools.
