"It was an honor to welcome Viktor Orban and his delightful daughter Flora to Mar-a-Lago. Viktor is a distinguished leader, esteemed worldwide. Hungary enjoys safety and strict migration policies, which are likely to continue under his leadership," Trump expressed on his Truth Social platform following their meeting.
Why was Orban's wife not present?
The media speculated about the presence of the 19-year-old alongside her father instead of the Prime Minister's wife.
"Since Viktor Orban’s wife was unable to accompany him, his daughter stepped in and joined him for the meeting with the Trumps," reported Orban’s spokesperson, Bertalan Havasi, to Hungarian media.
While the representative did not clarify if the visit was deemed an official state visit, he did emphasize that Viktor Orban "will personally cover his daughter's travel expenses, abiding by the relevant regulations."
"Prime Minister Viktor Orban was in the United States upon the invitation of the former — and, it is hoped, future — president of the USA. (...) The prime minister’s visit aimed at rejuvenating the Hungarian-American alliance," Havasi stated.
Hungarian analysts also highlighted an interesting detail: Flora Orban was seen at Trump’s Florida residence sporting a Gucci bag valued at $1,500.
