McDonald's launches blockbuster Minecraft movie meal

Starting April 4th, the movie about the iconic game Minecraft will hit cinema screens. McDonald's restaurants are also participating in the promotion, enticing fans of resource exploration with the Minecraft Movie set. Inside, there are two versions to construct, and there's the option to expand the set with a dessert featuring popping sprinkles.

A colleague from the editorial office gave in to her son's pleas, as he is a fan of the game. They opted for a set with cheese coins and round cheese bites in a golden breadcrumb coating. Classic nuggets were also available. They ordered the expanded version with McFlurry, topped with blocky cocoa sprinkles and white chocolate candies that, according to the offer, were supposed to pop like TNT.

Minecraft Movie Set – what's in the box?

For a young Minecraft fan, the box's contents proved to be of little importance. Inside were coins, fries, a drink, Nether Flame sauce, and a McFlurry with colorful sprinkles. However, it wasn't the food but the square box, reflecting the game's central theme, that received the most appreciation.

The fries ordered for home delivery weren't as tasty as those eaten in-store, which is understandable. The coins' dominant flavor was the coating, and in texture, they resembled meat nuggets. Only after a moment did the cheese flavor become noticeable. If purchased on-site, provided the inside was soft and gooey, they would offer a more pleasant experience.

After tasting, it was time to reflect on the calorie content. The choice with coins proved much more calorie-dense than the nuggets option. Six cheese bites in coating add up to 468 kcal, nearly as much as a Big Mac (544 kcal). The exact number of nuggets only provides 262 kcal, but are they worth it?

The composition of Nether Flame sauce raises concerns

The young Minecraft fan didn't even glance at the spicy sauce included in the set—possibly, this addition is aimed at slightly older consumers. Maybe it's for the best—aside from its very fitting name, nothing is noteworthy.

The sauce's ingredients list water, distilled vinegar, and sugar at the top. This is followed by apricot puree and chili pepper. The entire sauce has a sweet and spicy taste, similar to sauces found in Chinese cuisine. Classic ketchup was a better match with the coins and fries.

Popping sprinkles might be a hit

The dessert, an optional addition to the Minecraft Movie set, performed much better. Admittedly, the actual appearance of the blocky sprinkles was less attractive than in the photos, but white chocolate-coated candies pop like TNT. Everyone knows such additions appeal to children's tastes. Therefore, even if the basic set isn't a big hit, lines might form for the McFlurry with sprinkles.
