Ditch fast food: Make hearty hamburger soup at home
Why opt for unhealthy (and increasingly more expensive) fast food meals when you can make hamburger soup at home? Does it sound controversial? Blasphemous? Does this recipe demand justice? Not at all! Take a look and judge for yourself.
What won't people come up with? That's excellent because the limits of creativity are only in our heads. I've occasionally reviewed, recommended, or advised against various recipes and culinary tricks. So, when I discovered a recipe for hamburger soup online, I felt almost obligated to share my opinion on the subject with you.
You're probably wondering what this surprising hamburger soup is. Is it broth cooked with burger meat? Or maybe it includes a chopped fast-food sandwich? Neither of these. The intriguing name hides a mystery, but not too much of one. Luckily, the recipe involves a pragmatic use of ingredients we know well from hamburgers: beef, onions, tomatoes, and… cheese and ketchup. Note: It tastes quite good, and the meal's heartiness is impressive. I recommend it!
Hamburger soup
Ingredients:
- 1.5 quarts of broth
- 1.7 pounds of beef
- 1 onion
- 2 bell peppers
- 14 ounces of chopped tomatoes
- 3 carrots
- 3 garlic cloves
- 3 potatoes
- 2 tablespoons of ketchup
- Salt
- Pepper
- Oregano
- 3.5 ounces of yellow cheese in a block
Instructions:
- First, prepare the ingredients by chopping the beef into strips, the onion into slices, and the bell pepper and potatoes into cubes. Peel and grate the carrots, and crush the garlic.
- Next, heat some fat in a thick-bottomed pot and sauté the onion, garlic, and beef.
- After a while, add the rest of the ingredients, "season" them with ketchup, and don't forget to stir. After a few minutes, pour in the broth and cook the soup until the vegetables are tender.
- Season to taste with salt, pepper, and oregano.
- For the finishing touch: add grated yellow cheese. Hamburger soup should be served with a small amount on top. Enjoy!
