Kremlin comments on Trump's outburst about Putin
The Kremlin characterized the statement made on Sunday by U.S. President Donald Trump, who asserted that Vladimir Putin "has gone absolutely CRAZY," as a sign of "emotional overload" at a "very important moment."
"We are really grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their assistance in organizing and launching this negotiation process," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov when asked about Trump's comments on Putin.
"This is a very important moment, which is associated with the emotional overload of absolutely everyone and with emotional reactions," he added.
On Sunday, after a massive Russian drone attack on Ukraine, Trump wrote on his social media channel "Truth Social" that the Russian leader Vladimir Putin "has gone absolutely CRAZY."
"I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever," Trump wrote. "I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!" he added.
Trump has repeatedly mentioned before that Putin wanted all of Ukraine, but supposedly gave up those ambitions because of him.
Trump on Zelensky: Everything out of his mouth causes problems
The American president simultaneously reprimanded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for what Trump sees as harmful statements.
"Likewise, President Zelenskyy is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop," Trump threatened. Nevertheless, he reiterated that if he were president, Russia's aggression would not have happened, further claiming that it's not his war.
"This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War, not 'Trump’s,' I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through Gross Incompetence and Hatred," he concluded.
Commenting on the intensified Russian raids on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, Trump previously stated that he would "absolutely" consider imposing new sanctions on Russia, although he didn't commit to actually doing so.
