Donald Trump sharply criticized Vladimir Putin after the recent attack on Ukraine. The former American president stated that he has "gone completely mad." On Sunday evening, on the Truth Social platform, Trump condemned Putin's "unnecessary killing of many people" and warned that further actions could lead to Russia's downfall.

As noted by CNN, this past weekend, Russia carried out the largest airstrike since the beginning of the war. At least 12 people, including children, were killed in attacks on Ukraine, and dozens were injured.

I don't know what the hell happened to Putin, I've known him a long time, always gotten along with him. But he's sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don't like it at all. We're in the middle of talking, and he's shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities, I don't like it at all. I'm very surprised, Trump wrote.

Trump's post appeared on social media a few hours after he told journalists that he is "not happy" with what Putin is doing in Ukraine.

He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever, CNN quotes Trump as saying.

Trump criticizes Ukraine

Despite his harsh criticism of Putin, Trump noted that Ukraine is also not without fault. "Likewise, President Zelensky is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does," he stated, fueling tensions between the two leaders. "Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop."

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, previously urged Trump to condemn the attack. "Silence of America, silence of others around the world only encourage Putin," wrote the Ukrainian leader on social media. "Without truly strong pressure on the Russian leadership, this brutality cannot be stopped. Sanctions will certainly help. Determination matters now—the determination of the United States, of European countries, and of all those around the world who seek peace."
