Why is the timing of tea consumption so important? Like coffee, it's all about caffeine. For instance, classic black tea, which many of us frequently choose, contains caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the body, so it's crucial to consider the timing of such a drink wisely.

Which teas have the most caffeine?

Black varieties and matcha contain the most caffeine, while green tea and oolong have less. Herbal and fruit infusions are generally caffeine-free unless they include added black or green tea. Therefore, drinking beverages with this stimulating ingredient in the evening is not recommended as it can lead to sleep problems.

Caffeine disrupts melatonin levels, a hormone responsible for the circadian rhythm. People with trouble sleeping should avoid drinking black tea at the end of the day. In the evening, it's better to opt for herbal or fruit teas that do not contain caffeine and will not disturb sleep.

When to drink tea?

Although tea can be a great choice to start the day, drinking it on an empty stomach is not advisable as it can cause nausea. It's best to consume it after breakfast to avoid any discomfort. The same applies to green tea; drinking it in the morning rather than in the evening is preferable since it offers a gentle energy boost. It's also beneficial after a workout or intense exercise, as it can speed up fat burning and aid muscle recovery.

When should you have black tea? The ideal time is about an hour after a meal, typically around 4-5 PM. At this time, the tea won't negatively impact your ability to fall asleep and can hydrate your body before bed. It's also essential to refrain from drinking tea with meals, as it can interfere with iron absorption.

How much tea can you drink daily?

If tea is your only source of caffeine, four cups daily are safe. However, if you also consume coffee, limiting tea to two cups a day is best to avoid excessive caffeine intake. Otherwise, it can lead to hand tremors, headaches, and increased nervousness.
