We have frequently covered the controversies surrounding the premiere of "Snow White," which was ultimately well-received by critics. However, good reviews did not drive audiences to theaters, as "Snow White" had a very weak premiere despite the scandal. Meanwhile, new reports about the behind-the-scenes marketing preparations for the film have emerged. Rachel Zegler caused quite a stir at Disney with her comments about Donald Trump.

Controversies surrounding Rachel Zegler and Disney's film

For months, concerns had been growing at Disney regarding Rachel Zegler's online activity. According to the "New York Post," the actress made several controversial comments, including criticisms of President Donald Trump. In one instance, she wrote: "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace." In another, she explicitly stated: "F*** Donald Trump."

As reported by "Variety," Disney had reached its limit. The film's star was potentially alienating and even offending half of the potential audience for "Snow White," whose production exceeded budget expectations due to a set fire, costly reshoots, and COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

In November 2024, three months after the 23-year-old actress was criticized for commenting, "and always remember, free palestine" under her family film trailer, Disney decided to hire a social media specialist. Their task was to monitor and verify Zegler’s posts before the film's premiere, scheduled for March 21.

The studio feared that the actress's controversial statements might deter viewers, especially since nearly half of Americans voted for Trump. Producer Marc Platt, known for "Wicked," personally flew from Los Angeles to New York to convince Zegler to remove the problematic posts. However, the actress refused.

"She didn't understand the repercussions of her actions as far as what that meant for the film, for Gal, for anyone," a source told "Variety."

The situation also impacted Gal Gadot, who played the Evil Queen. She began receiving threats, prompting Disney to provide her with additional security.

The premiere of Snow White was disappointing. Despite debuting at number one at the domestic box office, the film only earned $87 million worldwide, a small amount compared to its $270 million budget.
