Trump's Gaza plan sparks outrage: Palestine is not for sale
"Palestine is not for sale," chanted the protesters who gathered in front of the White House. They declared that they will continue to resist for every piece of Palestine. This protest followed Trump's announcement about plans for the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip.
During a Tuesday conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump announced that "the US will take over the Gaza Strip."
"We'll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings — level it out. Create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area," announced Trump.
According to him, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip should not have to "go through a process of building and occupation by the same people that have really stood there and fought for it and lived there and died there and lived a miserable existence there." For residents, it is only associated with "death and destruction."
Trump presented the idea as a way to break the cycle of violence in the region and outlined his vision of creating the "Riviera of the Middle East" in Gaza, where international people, including Palestinians, would live.
Netanyahu supported Trump's idea, having previously discussed it with him. The Israeli Prime Minister stated that one of Israel's goals is to ensure that Gaza is not ruled by Hamas and that "President Trump is taking it to a much higher level."
Protest after Trump's words
Journalist and RMF FM correspondent Paweł Żuchowski published a recording online showing the protest taking place in front of the White House. After Trump's announcement, immigrants from Palestine and other supporters gathered there.
Among other things, they chanted "Gaza is not for sale" and declared that they will continue to resist for every piece of Palestine.
Residents of the Gaza Strip: We will not leave our homes
"Trump can go to hell with his ideas, beliefs, and money. We are not going anywhere. He cannot treat us as his property," residents of the Gaza Strip told journalists from the BBC and Reuters on Wednesday. "If he wants to resolve this conflict he should take the Israelis and put them in one of the states (in America). They are the strangers, not the Palestinians. We are the owners of the land," they added.
They declared that "We will not leave our areas." "(Trump) is crazy. We didn't leave Gaza under the bombardment and the starvation, how does he intend to eject us? We are going nowhere," they asked.
