Air raid sirens echo across Ukraine as Russian attacks persist
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, air raid sirens blared across Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian TU-95 bombers had launched cruise missiles, and air defense systems throughout Ukraine remained on high alert.
In response to Russia's attack on Ukraine, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces stated: "Due to the activity of long-range aviation from the Russian Federation targeting sites in western Ukraine, military aviation has been deployed in Polish airspace.," according to the morning communiqué.
Close to 15 hours of air raid alerts
Throughout the night, Russian drones targeted Ukraine. The alert in the Kyiv region lasted over 10 hours, in Chernihiv for over 11 hours, in Poltava for over 12 hours, and in Sumy for over 14.5 hours. The alert in Ukraine's capital lasted 3.5 hours.
At 12:36 AM Eastern Time, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that the alert had ended in most areas, except for the Sumy, Poltava, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, which remain under threat from Russian drone attacks.
