Trump claims peace in Ukraine possible in weeks with EU troops
The President of the USA, Donald Trump, said on Monday in Washington that he could end the war in Ukraine within the next few weeks. He also mentioned that Russia would accept European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.
Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House on Monday. The primary topic of discussion was the war in Ukraine. The US President declared that he could end it "within the next few weeks."
When asked whether Ukraine should give up part of its territory to Russia as part of a peace agreement, Trump responded ambiguously, suggesting the possibility remained open.
Macron expressed no objections to the idea of deploying European troops to Ukraine, stating that European nations are prepared for such a commitment. He emphasized their readiness to provide security guarantees.
Macron introduced the idea and clarified that European soldiers would act solely as guarantors of a ceasefire and would not be positioned on the front lines. He stressed that their role would be to ensure compliance with peace agreements rather than engage in the conflict.
Trump on Putin: No problem with it
According to Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin would accept European troops in Ukraine as part of a potential agreement to end the war.
According to Reuters, Trump stated that Putin would accept the proposal, emphasizing that he had directly asked the Russian leader and received confirmation that there was no objection.
Trump also announced that he might meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this week or next to sign an agreement regarding minerals, which he claims is "very close" to being finalized. Regarding a meeting with Putin and a trip to Moscow, the American President said it would happen "in due time."
Putin himself said he sees nothing wrong with European involvement in Ukraine negotiations. He added that Russia and the USA could agree to reduce defense spending, which he considered a beneficial idea.
The Russian leader also stated that the prepared agreement between the USA and Ukraine on minerals is not Russia's concern.
