Wool bread: The internet sensation transforming kitchens
It looks impressive, overshadowing classic cakes even before tasting. The soft and fluffy wool bread is slowly making its way into living rooms and plans to stay there for the long haul.
Wool bread is a hit that must appear on the Easter table. Since I discovered this recipe, I bake this bread regularly. It is fluffy and light, tasting great with a glass of milk, cocoa, or a cup of hot coffee. It's a delicious alternative to the classic yeast cake and sand cake.
Wool bread
"Wool bread" is a bread that has gained immense popularity on the internet due to its eye-catching spiral appearance resembling a ball of yarn. It immediately draws attention and, after tasting, you'll find that its merits aren’t just about looks. Making wool bread is quite simple, so any home baking enthusiast can handle it.
This is a dessert that can be a culinary chameleon. You can prepare it sweet by adding raisins, chocolate pieces, or jam filling inside. You can also opt for a savory version and fill it with pesto or, for a holiday touch, white sausage. Because the structure is quite pliable, it allows for various fillings. If you choose the savory option, reduce the sugar in the dough.
Ingredients:
- 10.5-12.3 oz all-purpose flour,
- 1.4 tsp dried yeast,
- 1.4 oz sugar,
- 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar,
- 2.4 fl oz 30% cream,
- 1 egg,
- a pinch of salt.
Instructions:
- Add yeast to warm milk and set aside for a few minutes. The dried yeast won't rise, but it should become somewhat frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, white sugar, vanilla sugar, and a large pinch of salt.
- Add the egg, cream, and yeast, then knead into a smooth, elastic dough.
- Cover with a cloth and let rise for 1.5 hours until it doubles in size.
- Transfer the dough to a board and divide it into 5 parts. Form them into balls and let rise for 10 minutes.
- Roll each piece into a rectangle and cut into strips two-thirds of the way through.
- Roll into a log, starting from the uncut side and rolling towards the cut strips. If stuffing, add the filling to the uncut part before rolling.
- Tightly arrange the rolled pieces into a round shape in a springform pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 1-2 hours.
- Brush with milk and bake in an oven preheated to 356°F for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
Wool bread will be a beautiful and delicious decoration for the table. Enjoy!
