WhatsApp desktop users rejoice: one‑time messages return

WhatsApp is bringing back a previously removed feature for desktop users. The once popular one-time message feature will be made available again after being suspended for a year.

As revealed by the team at WABetaInfo, desktop users of the popular messenger will soon be able to use the one-time message option again. This feature had been removed from the platform last year.

One-time view of messages, photos, and videos is a feature synonymous with several messaging platforms, including WhatsApp. This feature's withdrawal from the desktop versions was primarily due to safety concerns. It's generally easier to screenshot or save images on PCs than on mobile devices. As such, 'one-time' messages could potentially be saved indefinitely.

An initiative within the company led to a decision that users should ensure their own safety and decide whether they wish to send and open one-time messages on the PC version of WhatsApp. It's important to remember that if someone indeed intends to save messages labelled as 'one-time,' they could find a way to do so, regardless of the platform used.

The updated feature to send and open one-time messages is now available in WhatsApp for Windows and macOS, including WhatsApp Web.

The feature is gradually being released to users. Still, not everyone has access just yet. WABetaInfo estimates that availability will be widespread within a few weeks.
