Third attack on the Crimean Bridge

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that it executed a third attack on the Crimean Bridge, which links occupied Crimea with the Russian mainland. The attack occurred on Tuesday morning, inflicting damage on the bridge's underwater supports. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to compromise Russian military infrastructure.

Operation details

The operation, which unfolded over several months, was meticulously planned and carried out without harming civilians. The SBU reported using 2,425 pounds of explosives in TNT equivalent to destroy the bridge's supports. The bridge, a crucial logistical element for Russia, is now in a state of emergency.

The operation lasted for several months. SBU agents mined the supports of this illegal construction – announced the SBU.

Significance of the Crimean Bridge

The Crimean Bridge, constructed by Russia from 2016 to 2019, is the sole land connection between Crimea and Russia. Its strategic value makes it a target for Ukrainian attacks. Earlier attacks in 2022 and 2023 were also aimed at crippling Russia's transport capabilities.

Statements from Ukrainian commanders

General Vasyl Maliuk, head of the SBU, highlighted that the operation is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to regain control over Crimea.

God favors the Trinity, and the SBU executes its operations with precision and without repetition. We've already targeted the Crimean Bridge twice—once in 2022 and again in 2023. Today, we upheld that pattern, this time using an underwater approach. There is no room for unlawful structures of the Russian Federation within our nation's borders, emphasized Maliuk, also noting that the bridge qualifies as "a completely legal target."

Reactions and future plans

Attacks on the Crimean Bridge are part of a larger strategy by Ukraine to undermine the Russian presence in Crimea. Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neyizhpapa expressed optimism about the potential for further actions, underscoring the logistical significance of the bridge for Russia.
