Ukraine targets frozen Russian assets to rebuild nation
The authorities in Kyiv are exploring ways to secure funding for the country's reconstruction. One proposal is to utilize Russian assets for this purpose. Ukraine plans to levy special tariffs on the import of Russian goods after the war.
Proceeds from these tariffs would be allocated to the Ukraine rebuilding fund. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal explained that this approach would serve as an "economic reparation mechanism that allows action without needing to wait for political changes in Russia."
The current authorities in the Kremlin consistently reject the possibility of compensating Ukraine for losses sustained during the war.
Ukraine aims to seize Russian money as a form of reparation
Additionally, Ukraine is actively pursuing the full confiscation of frozen Russian assets as reparations.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine has stated that the country has already secured $50 billion from frozen Russian assets. These funds, he noted, are being used for budgetary requirements, military expenditures, and repairing damaged infrastructure. Ukraine's goal is the complete confiscation of these assets.
