The office of the President of Ukraine published photos from Volodymyr Zelensky's conversation with Donald Trump, which was held in St. Peter's Basilica. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes. The photos show the presidents sitting across from each other.
Serhiy Nykyforov, Zelensky's spokesperson, reported that the presidents agreed to further negotiations on Saturday. Preparations for these talks are already underway.
"It looks a bit like a confession"
Shortly after the publication of the presidents' photos, the first comments appeared on social media.
"No words are needed to describe the importance of this historic meeting. Two leaders working for peace in St. Peter’s Basilica", said Andriy Sybiha, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"Most likely, the meeting was initiated by diplomats from the United Kingdom and France," reported Mateusz Lachowski, a correspondent for Polish Television in Ukraine.
"There is no better place for such a conversation," commented Vatican expert Michał Kłosowski.
"It’s always good when talks are taking place. There is a chance that something will come of them," noted RMF FM journalist Paweł Żuchowski.
