Ukraine rules out Russian gas transit in USA agreement talks
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that Ukraine's gas transmission system was not discussed in the context of the mineral resources agreement with the USA. He mentioned that conversations about the pipeline are ongoing but explicitly excluded the transit of Russian gas.
During a meeting with journalists on April 17, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the issue of Ukraine's gas transmission system. According to "Pravda," the President of Ukraine emphasized that this topic was not raised in the context of the mineral resources agreement with the USA.
"We did not talk about the pipeline. Although, if we are discussing this asset, we can explore it. But certainly not about the Russians pumping their gas and profiting from the war. We have said many times: there is other gas, other countries—that's fine," said Zelensky.
Zelensky clarified that Ukraine does not consider resuming gas transit and that the United States is not pushing for this. The President added that talks might involve other gas sources and countries.
Previously, Reuters reported that the USA was considering control over the pipeline connecting Russia to Europe through Ukraine.
In the context of the mineral resources agreement, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine does not intend to support Russian energy interests. He noted that discussions with the USA focus on other aspects of cooperation, not gas transmission. "Pravda" reports that Ukraine is open to dialogue about other energy possibilities.
