Ukraine deploys AI‑powered drones to counter Russian edge

The Ukrainian army is introducing modern technologies, such as drones with fiber optics and combat modules with AI, to gain an advantage over the enemy, reports the Ukrainian agency Unian. The Ukrainians' plans aim to eliminate the Russians' advantage within three months at the latest.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are deploying innovative technologies to increase their effectiveness on the battlefield. General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Chief Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, revealed that the army uses drones equipped with 12-mile-long fiber optic cables, which allow for greater range and operational effectiveness.

Drones and artificial intelligence in action

Modern technologies also include combat modules featuring elements of artificial intelligence that can independently identify targets and open fire. Syrskyi emphasizes that these innovations may soon eliminate the enemy's advantage, and their production is being intensively developed.

Perhaps in a month, two, or three, we will be able to significantly increase the number of fiber-optic drones, which will practically deprive the enemy of the advantage it currently has — Syrskyi believes. He adds that increasing the number of remotely controlled ground drones is also important.

Let's clarify that the fiber-optic drones mentioned by Syrskyi differ from conventional ones in that their control is latency-free. Furthermore, there are no delays in image transmission — pilots can see in real-time where they are located and can thus more effectively strike enemy vehicles.

The Ukrainian army is not only introducing new technologies but is also effectively responding to enemy actions. In the event of the enemy using precision aerial bombs, the Ukrainian Armed Forces deploy their own guided bombs, such as the GBU, enabling precise attacks.

The effectiveness of Ukrainian actions

Thanks to modern technologies, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to destroy the Russian T-22M3 bomber and forced the enemy to withdraw their aviation 125-185 miles from the front line. These actions have also contributed to a reduction in the use of artillery ammunition by the Russians.

General Syrskyi notes that some operations require discretion to protect soldiers' lives. He emphasizes that although not all actions are disclosed, their effects will be visible in the future.
