Ukraine aims for EU membership boost with 2025 presidencies
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed hope that the Polish and Danish presidencies in the EU in 2025 will be groundbreaking for Ukraine. He emphasized that his country must do as much as possible toward integration with the Community in the coming year.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the year 2025 will be crucial for Ukraine in the context of integration with the European Union. He expected that the Polish and Danish presidencies in the EU would contribute to historic changes for his country.
“We must join the European Union. Next year, we must do everything possible to progress in the negotiations and development of relations with partners in the European Union,” he said.
“That is why the presidency of Poland, and in the second half of the year, Denmark, in the EU, should be historic for Ukraine,” he noted.
During a speech to diplomats on their professional holiday, Zelensky emphasized that one of the main tasks is to work on justice for Ukraine. He pointed out the necessity of holding Russia accountable for the war, imposing further sanctions, and locating Russian assets that have not yet been frozen.
Cooperation with partners
The President of Ukraine highlighted the need for close cooperation with partners who are already investing or may invest in Ukrainian arms production and reconstruction projects.
Zelensky urged collaboration with existing and potential partners involved in investments in Ukraine’s national arms production and joint reconstruction projects.
At the beginning of December, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos conveyed that the first chapter of negotiations on Ukraine's membership, concerning the basics of the accession process, could be opened as early as the first half of 2025.
