The U.S. State Department announced the immediate resumption of intelligence sharing and security assistance for Ukraine. The decision was made after discussions between high-ranking officials from both countries in Saudi Arabia.

A statement provided to Reuters noted that the direct negotiations between U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah were crucial in shifting Washington's stance.

Ukraine agreed to the U.S. proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire, contingent on Russia's compliance, as reported via Telegram by the head of the Ukrainian president's office.

"The delegations also discussed the importance of humanitarian actions in the peace process, particularly during the proposed ceasefire, including the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of detained civilians, and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children," Andriy Yermak conveyed.

New U.S. strategy toward Ukraine

During the talks, Ukraine clearly expressed its support for the peace vision proposed by President Donald Trump. As Waltz emphasized, Kyiv accepted the proposal for a complete ceasefire, which influenced the decision to reopen intelligence channels and resume military support.

Mike Waltz also noted that he plans to hold talks with his Russian counterpart in the coming days, while Marco Rubio is set to meet with the foreign ministers of the G7.

A key element of the talks was reaching an agreement on the management of Ukraine's critical mineral resources. The United States and Ukraine agreed to promptly sign a comprehensive agreement.
