Trump's pastor condemns Putin after deadly Sumy attack
Trump's spiritual advisor, Pastor Mark Burns, called the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, "pure evil" following the Russian attack on the city of Sumy in Ukraine.
The spiritual advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump posted a detailed statement on the platform X, accompanied by a recording made just after the attack on Sumy. Due to its graphic nature, we will not publish it.
"Unforgivable assault on humanity"
The video shows burning cars and dozens of bodies lying on the street.
"This is why I called Putin is Evil...As a pastor and peacemaker, I vehemently condemn Russia’s heinous bombing of a church in Sumy, Ukraine, on Palm Sunday, a day meant for worship and spiritual renewal for Christians everywhere," Burns wrote.
He added that "this brutal attack, which callously targeted innocent churchgoers gathered in peace to celebrate Palm Sunday, is an unforgivable assault on humanity, faith, and the sanctity of life."
In the pastor's view, "such deliberate violence against defenseless worshippers reveals a profound disregard for compassion and morality." "I demand justice, accountability, and an immediate end to these atrocities, calling on all people of conscience to denounce this evil and work relentlessly for peace and reconciliation," he wrote.
He also urged "all people of faith from around the world to publicly condemn Russia for these evil acts of violence against women and children civilians." "The World must stand together against these evil acts," he emphasized.
Bloody Russian attack on Sumy in Ukraine
On Palm Sunday, the Russian army attacked the center of Sumy in the northeastern part of Ukraine. Thirty-four civilians were killed, and 117 people were injured.
The Sunday attack on Sumy occurred two days after a meeting between the American special envoy of the U.S. President for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. On Monday, the Kremlin stated that the talks between Witkoff and Putin were "beneficial and effective." Still, a possible meeting between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump was not explicitly discussed.
The Russian attack was met with a response from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and many other world leaders.
