Trump's mass deportation plan faces unexpected decline
Since January, when Donald Trump assumed the presidency of the USA, Mexico has received 39,000 deported individuals. This is fewer than in the previous year during Joe Biden's term.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that since the beginning of Donald Trump's presidency in the USA, Mexico has welcomed 39,000 people deported from the United States. Of this number, 33,000 are Mexican citizens.
Reuters noted that this number is lower than last year when Mexico received 52,000 deportees during Joe Biden’s term.
Decrease in deportations
The number of deportees to Mexico has significantly decreased compared to 2024. In February, March, and April of last year, Mexico received 52,000 individuals deported from the USA.
Despite Donald Trump's announcements of "the largest deportation operation in American history", these numbers do not confirm his declarations. AOL highlighted that Trump's statements were mainly aimed at strengthening his political position and returning to the White House.
Trump's deportation policy
Since the beginning of his presidency, Donald Trump has placed strong emphasis on reducing the number of illegal immigrants in the USA. His administration aims to deport one million people annually, which is an ambitious and controversial goal.
"The Washington Post" claims that this ambitious endeavor is stirring controversy and presenting considerable logistical challenges.
Criticism and challenges
Trump's plan faces criticism from human rights organizations and some federal judges.
According to "The Washington Post", Trump officials orchestrated a media spectacle by transferring hundreds of detainees to a prison complex in El Salvador and to the naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
Many people fear that these actions may violate human rights.
Controversial cases
In recent months, there have been several high-profile deportation cases that have sparked public outrage. Federal Judge Terry Doughty raises alarms about the deportation of a two-year-old US citizen without due process. Such situations undermine trust in the Trump administration and its immigration policies.
