On April 14th, California experienced an earthquake that was felt from San Diego to Los Angeles. The extraordinary behavior of elephants was recorded at the San Diego Safari Park.

The animals formed a circle, shielding the young ones from the tremors. This behavior is known as a "warning circle."

Adult elephants stood on the outer edge, while the young ones were secured in the middle, serving to protect them from the effects of the earthquake. After the tremors subsided, the animals dispersed. This behavior highlights the intelligence and social nature of these animals.

Animals can predict disasters

Animals often demonstrate an ability to predict disasters. For instance, mice in Japan changed their behavior after the 2011 earthquake. Similar abilities are attributed to fish and rodents. These animals can detect subtle environmental changes, such as ground vibrations, shifts in atmospheric pressure, or fluctuations in electromagnetic fields.

Many people have observed that just before a disaster, animals become restless, abandon their nests, or migrate to other locations. Scientists are continually studying these phenomena, trying to understand the mechanisms behind animal intuition.

Elephants are renowned for their strong social and emotional connections. Their funeral rituals resemble mourning, as confirmed by findings in India, where elephants have been observed burying the bodies of their young in trenches.

Elephants, like dolphins and some parrots, produce personalized sounds that can be considered names. This further proves their advanced communication abilities.
