Trump proposes radical economic move: Canada as 51st state
Donald Trump responded with additional tariffs on Canada in reaction to Ontario's decision to impose tariffs on electricity. Furthermore, Trump announced a state of emergency in a "threatened area," urging Canada to drop its "anti-American Farmer Tariff," and even suggesting that Canada should become the "51st state in the USA."
It's worth noting that Ontario began imposing a 25% export tariff on electricity sold to the United States. Ontario Premier Doug Ford warned that if U.S. tariffs remain in effect, Ontario might stop the sale of electricity to the USA as early as April and halt the export of nickel, which is crucial for the American military industry.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, reacted to this decision on Tuesday. "I have instructed my Secretary of Commerce to add an ADDITIONAL 25% Tariff, to 50%, on all STEEL and ALUMINUM COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM CANADA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST TARIFFING NATIONS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD," Trump wrote.
In the post, he also called on Canada to remove its tariffs. He emphasized that Canada must promptly remove its steep anti-American tariffs of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, calling them outrageous.

Donald Trump also stated that if Canada fails to remove other long-standing and excessive tariffs, he will significantly raise tariffs on cars imported into the U.S. starting April 2nd. He warned that this move would effectively cripple Canada's automotive industry, adding that vehicle production could instead take place in the United States.
The U.S. President asserted in his post that Canada invests too little in national security while relying on U.S. protection. He claimed that the United States subsidizes Canada by over 160 billion pounds annually and questioned its rationale, stating that this situation cannot continue.
Trump suggested that the most practical solution would be for Canada to join the United States as the 51st state. He argued that this would eliminate tariffs and other trade barriers, significantly lower taxes for Canadians, and enhance their security both militarily and otherwise. He also stated that the northern border issue would cease to exist, making the United States—already the world's largest and most powerful nation—even greater, stronger, and more unified with Canada as an integral part.
Donald Trump expressed hope that the artificial border, established many years ago, will soon cease to exist. In his vision, the world's safest and most beautiful country will emerge. He emphasized that the anthem "O Canada" would still resound, but this time, it would be the anthem of a great and powerful state within the framework of the greatest nation.
