  • Donald Trump decided to increase Canadian steel and aluminum tariffs by 25%. This decision is in response to Ontario raising electricity tariffs exported to the U.S.
  • The American president has made further demands on Canada, including removing an anti-American agricultural tariff on various American dairy products, ranging from 250% to 390%.
  • If other tariffs are not lifted, Trump threatened to increase tariffs on cars imported from Canada, which could affect the Canadian automotive industry.

Ontario increased tariffs on electricity supplied to the United States by 25%, which was met with retaliation from Donald Trump's administration.

The American president announced on social media that, in response to this increase, the tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum will also rise by 25%. He said the decision will take effect on Wednesday.

Trump also increased pressure on Canada, issuing new demands and threats. He called for the immediate removal of Canada's agricultural tariffs on various American dairy products, which range from 250% to 390% and have long been viewed as controversial.

"I will shortly be declaring a National Emergency on Electricity within the threatened area. This will allow the U.S to quickly do what has to be done to alleviate this abusive threat from Canada. If other egregious, long time Tariffs are not likewise dropped by Canada, I will substantially increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada," he also pointed out.

Trump wants Canada in the USA

Trump suggested that integrating Canada would eliminate issues at the northern border and further strengthen the United States, describing it as an opportunity for the nation to become even larger, better, and more powerful, with Canada playing a significant role in this vision.

"There would no longer be a problem with the northern border, and the greatest and most powerful nation in the world would become even bigger, better, and stronger than ever—and Canada would be an important part of it," added Trump.
