Trump hints at effort to help Ukraine reclaim coastal regions

The President of the USA, Donald Trump, has not dismissed the possibility of helping Ukraine recover some coastal areas that were taken by Russia, including the city of Mariupol. "We'll be seeing about that," he told journalists.

After meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Donald Trump was questioned by a journalist regarding the Ukrainian territories that the USA wants Kyiv to reclaim.

"There were a lot of areas that were taken," Trump said to reporters in the Oval Office.

"Yeah, we've talked about it. A lot of the sea line has been taken, and we'll be talking about that. And we're going to see if we can get it back or get a lot of it back for Ukraine, if that's possible. We'll be seeing about that," he stated.

How much of Ukraine's coastal areas has Russia taken over?

During the conflict, Russia has taken over a significant portion of Ukraine's coastal areas, particularly in the Donetsk region, including the city of Mariupol, which was almost leveled due to fighting, as well as in the Kherson region. Since 2014, Russians have also maintained control over Crimea, which is a part of Ukraine.

These territories were illegally annexed by Russia through referendums in September 2022. The international community does not recognize this annexation.
