Trump and Starmer push for peace progress in Ukraine talks
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that talks with Russia and Ukraine on a peace deal are "very well advanced." He also expressed confidence that Putin will keep his word and not break a potential agreement.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House, Donald Trump emphasized initially that Russia is behaving as expected and that peace talks have reached an advanced stage.
When asked by journalists in the Oval Office about his trust in Putin, Trump explained that he follows the principle of "trust, but verify," which gives him confidence that any agreement reached will be enduring.
Trump also addressed securing peace in Ukraine, stating that the US will ensure security through an agreement concerning Ukrainian minerals. Starmer noted that this would be a topic of discussion in his conversation with Trump.
The British Prime Minister highlighted that their discussion with the US President focuses on working together to uphold the integrity of this agreement.
Starmer and Macron on a mission to visit Trump?
During a period of intensive international diplomacy on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer decided to coordinate their efforts to influence Donald Trump's plans to end the war in Ukraine. "The Times" reported that global security is facing a "decisive moment."
The two leaders intend to persuade Trump not to continue bilateral negotiations with Russia in exchange for European commitments regarding Ukraine's future security.
On the same day, the US President and the President of France announced significant progress in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine during a joint press conference.
