Trump calls for 50% EU tariff amid trade tension
Donald Trump announced on social media that he recommends implementing a 50 percent tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025.
Trump explained on his platform that the European Union was created to take advantage of the United States in trade. "It has been very difficult to deal with," he remarked.
"Their powerful Trade Barriers, Vat Taxes, ridiculous Corporate Penalties, Non-Monetary Trade Barriers, Monetary Manipulations, unfair and unjustified lawsuits against Americans Companies, and more, have led to a Trade Deficit with the U.S. of more than $250,000,000 a year, a number which is totally unacceptable," the American president detailed in his post. "Our discussions with them are going nowhere!" he added.
Trump indicated that he had made a decision regarding the tariff recommendation for the European Union, which will be effective from June 1.
"I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union, starting on June 1, 2025. There is no Tariff if the product is built or manufactured in the United States," Trump clarified.
