However, there is no doubt that the biggest hit of Tom Cruise’s career will remain "Top Gun: Maverick" from 2022, which grossed around $1.5 billion.
In interviews regarding the final part of "Mission: Impossible," journalists often ask Cruise about the future of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. The actor doesn't provide definite answers, but from his comments, one can infer that the project is progressing in the right direction.
In a conversation with the "Today Show Australia," the star admitted that "work is underway." "There’s numerous other films that we’re actively working on right now. I’m always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film. I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, and we’ll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience," Cruise said.
"We’re thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what’s possible. It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick," continued the actor.
It's been known for a while that Tom Cruise wants to shoot footage for one of his films in outer space. The star is involved in the creation of a film studio called SEE-1, which is set to dock with the first commercial space station, Axiom Station. The third part of "Top Gun" seems to be the perfect project for this.
