Tofu is an excellent alternative to meat. It absorbs spices and marinades like a sponge. At between 1 and 2 dollars per package, it's an affordable option for preparing an Asian dish that will win over your family.

Tofu is made by coagulating soy milk. It is a plant-based product versatile enough to be used in both desserts and savory dishes. Tofu can do everything from a sweet cheese spread to an eggless egg paste.

Tofu is a texture somewhere between cottage cheese and chicken breast. It absorbs spices and marinades exceptionally well. Tofu is one of the most important ingredients in Asian cuisine. Serve it in one of the most popular Asian dishes, and your family won’t even realize there is no meat on their plate.

Asian cuisine is known for its contrasts. It’s sweet, salty, sour, and umami, a blend of flavors that creates an explosion of taste. While the cuisine does include meat, it also features tofu. Tofu, invented in ancient China, is a plant-based alternative to meat made by coagulating soy milk.

In texture, it is something between cottage cheese and chicken meat. Tofu is both soft and firm, with a springy consistency. Vegans and vegetarians consume it in large quantities because it can be used to create many aromatic dishes. Blended tofu is used in cheesecake, while crumbled tofu serves as a ground meat substitute. The possibilities are endless.

Tofu is neutral in taste and requires proper seasoning. Here’s a recipe for crispy tofu in a sweet and spicy sauce that will win you over to plant-based cuisine. You’ve probably never had it like this before.
