Casseroles have many benefits. They're quick to prepare and minimize cleanup afterwards. All you need is one larger dish for the oven. They’re also economical, making them a smart choice for any meal.

Classic, but with a twist

Casseroles are a playground for culinary imagination. They allow you to use your favourite ingredients or whatever is left in the fridge. Cover with a tasty sauce and bake for a quick lunch or a hearty dinner. For a filling option, consider a casserole based on potatoes, a staple of many cuisines often eaten boiled. When baked, potatoes become flavorful and can serve as the main component of your dish.

Chicken is another key ingredient for those who love classic flavours. Baked chicken is lighter than fried chicken; tomatoes keep it from drying out while adding taste. Fresh herbs, such as basil or rosemary, and a sprinkle of Herbes de Provence elevate the flavour.

Recipe for chicken casserole

Ingredients:
  • 3 large potatoes,
  • 1 onion,
  • 2 chicken fillets,
  • About 7 ounces of whipping cream,
  • Grated yellow cheese to taste,
  • 1 tomato,
  • 2 eggs,
  • 3 cloves of garlic,
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
  • Salt, pepper, sweet paprika, Herbes de Provence,
  • Sprigs of fresh rosemary or basil.
How to prepare:
  1. Peel the potatoes and slice thinly; slice the onion into thin strips. Wash the chicken fillets and cut them into strips. Mix the chicken with olive oil and minced garlic in a bowl, and season with pepper, sweet paprika, and Herbes de Provence.
  2. For the sauce, whisk the eggs and mix with the cream, seasoned with salt and pepper.
  3. Butter a baking dish and layer the ingredients, starting with the onion, then potatoes seasoned with salt. Arrange the chicken pieces on top. Pour over the egg and cream sauce, cover the dish, and bake in a preheated oven at 392 degrees F for about 60 minutes.
  4. After this time, carefully remove the dish, arrange tomato slices, sprinkle with grated cheese, and add sprigs of fresh herbs. Bake uncovered for another 20 minutes.
