Russia ups missile game amid tensions, outdoing NATO's arsenal
Moscow is currently in an open confrontation with the United States and its allies, as stated by the Russian ambassador. The diplomat has expressed concern that the Kremlin might need to bolster its missile arsenal to effectively deter the West.
According to reports from the Reuters Agency, forecasts from the United States indicate that Russia is set to produce more artillery this year than all 32 NATO members combined. Russian Ambassador Grigory Mashkov suggests that Moscow must further enhance its missile capabilities amidst ongoing tensions with the West.
"We are now at the stage of open confrontation, which, I hope, will not result in a direct armed conflict," Mashkov remarked during an interview with the Russian state news agency RIA. He emphasized "further steps to strengthen the country’s defense capability, including building up the missile arsenal, in order to discourage any potential enemy from testing Russia’s strength."
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute projects that in 2024, Russia will allocate 7.1 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to military spending, as reported by Reuters.
