Russia plans drone warfare video game amid Ukraine conflict
Hundreds of Russian drones attack targets in Ukraine daily. Russia aims to leverage these experiences. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia has proposed creating a computer game about the use of drones in the war with Ukraine.
The Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, Anton Alikhanov, suggested developing a computer game focusing on drone use in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This proposal was directed to the Minister of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, and the Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, according to the Russian service "Vedomosti," citing its sources.
When asked about these reports, the Ministry of Digital Development stated that it has not yet received official requests from the Ministry of Industry and Trade but supports initiatives aimed at "fostering activities in creating and promoting video games by Russian developers". Details about the project have not been disclosed yet.
"There is a real demand"
According to Vasily Ovchinnikov, general director of the Video Game Development Organization, there is a significant demand in Russia for military simulators and patriotic projects, especially from military and educational institutions. Ovchinnikov believes that a game about drones in the "special military operation zone" could gain popularity if well-executed and if it offers engaging gameplay.
Experts cited by "Vedomosti" estimate that the production cost of the game will depend on its genre and scale. Creating such a project may require between 50 million and five billion rubles (approximately $500,000 to $50 million).
