Russia eyes renewed dialogue as Trump takes office
At the Security Council meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assured that Trump considers the issue of the war in Ukraine "one of the priority directions" of his foreign policy.
Many of the pieces of information provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
"Everyone is wondering what official approaches will be promoted by the Trump administration," said Lavrov. "They clearly indicate that they understand some aspects of Russia's position. For example, those concerning the prevention of Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance," he stated.
Putin congratulates Trump
Vladimir Putin also spoke. He congratulated Donald Trump on his inauguration. He stated that Trump and his colleagues discuss the "desire to resume direct contacts with Russia" and "the necessity to do everything to prevent World War III"; however, he did not provide specifics.
As reported by the TASS agency, Putin said that "Moscow perceives the statements of Trump and his team regarding the desire to resume dialogue with Russia." He also once again insisted that "this dialogue was interrupted due to the fault of the outgoing administration of the current US President Joe Biden."
