Russian submarines in the Black Sea have been equipped with more Kalibr missiles. According to Unian, one of the submarines now carries six missiles, an increase from the previous four.

More Kalibrs on board

Dmitro Pletenczuk, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, explained that these changes may result from a redesign of the submarines by the Russians. "It can now carry up to six missiles at once," Pletenczuk said regarding one submarine that underwent modernization. This suggests that the Russian Federation may have made alterations to a larger number of vessels.

Unian reports that as of April 21, there was one Russian submarine in the Black Sea equipped with six Kalibr missiles. This represents a significant shift in the strategy of the Russian Navy.

It's also noteworthy that Russia is building the largest universal landing ship of project 23900, Ivan Rogov, in occupied Crimea. It will be able to carry up to 20 helicopters and 1,000 soldiers.

Kalibr missiles

The Kalibr is a type of missile available in various versions, such as 3M14 and 3M54. It is valued for its long-range capability, with the 3M14 variant capable of covering distances exceeding 930 miles. Meanwhile, the anti-ship variant, 3M54, can reach nearly 435 miles.

Kalibr uses advanced guidance technologies, combining inertial navigation with an active radar homing system, as well as satellite navigation and DSMAC. An important aspect of this Russian weapon system, developed in the 1990s, is its capability to carry both conventional and nuclear warheads.
