Russia backs US‑Iran talks, seeks nuclear deal resolution

Russia declares readiness to support agreements between the USA and Iran on the nuclear deal, provided they are mutually acceptable, stated the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov.

The talks in Muscat were the first high-level contacts between the USA and Iran since 2022. Their goal is to resolve longstanding disputes related to the Iranian nuclear program. "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to seek an agreement within the framework of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty," Lavrov said, quoted by the Kremlin news agency, TASS.

After constructive talks in Muscat, the parties agreed to continue consultations. The next meeting is scheduled for April 19th in Rome. "The meeting proceeded constructively and in a calm atmosphere," informed the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
