The war in Ukraine: What does the U.S. expect from Russia?

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, after meeting with NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, expressed the Trump administration's expectations towards Russia. As reported by "Ukrainian Pravda," Rubio stated that President Trump seeks to end the war on terms agreeable to both sides.

"It is possible to end this war on terms acceptable to both sides. If both sides agree," Rubio said, adding that a decision should be made in weeks, not months.

Is Russia ready for peace with Ukraine?

Rubio emphasized that the U.S. is monitoring Russia and will not pursue further negotiations if Russia employs delaying tactics. "If you’re interested in peace, you stop fighting and you lay out the conditions by which you’re willing to end the war, and they have to be reasonable conditions," Rubio stated. He added that if Russia initiates a new offensive, it would clearly indicate a lack of interest in peace.

Rubio stressed that the U.S. wants to understand whether Russia genuinely seeks peace.

"Russia violated the ceasefire regarding energy"

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Andriy Sybiha, wrote on the platform X that on Thursday, he met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at NATO headquarters in Brussels. During the meeting, he informed Rubio, among other things, that Russia violated the ceasefire agreement concerning energy and infrastructure.

The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed that in his conversation with Rubio, he confirmed Ukraine's strong commitment to peace efforts and assured him that Ukraine welcomed the leadership of the United States. "Ukraine is fully committed to peace and has taken concrete unconditional steps to achieve it, whereas Russia continues to drag its feet. I also informed my counterpart about Russia’s recent violations of the energy ceasefire," Sybiha stated.
