A washing machine is a device that operates in homes every day. Although we often overlook it, regular cleaning is crucial for its longevity and the quality of the laundry. Ignoring this can lead to the buildup of mold and bacteria in crevices, resulting in unpleasant odors and reduced washing effectiveness.

Homemade methods for cleaning the washing machine

We don't need to rely on specialized chemicals to keep the washing machine clean. There are effective homemade methods that are easy to apply. Effective, easy-to-apply homemade methods are available.

One method involves using lemon and toothpaste. Simply apply a bit of toothpaste to half a lemon and place it in the washing machine drum. For an even better cleaning effect, rub toothpaste on the door. Set the machine to 194°F. Limescale, residue, bacteria, and unpleasant odors will disappear quickly.

Another trick involves vinegar and baking soda. Pour half a cup of baking soda into the washing machine drum and a cup of vinegar into the detergent drawer. Then, run the washing machine at the highest temperature to neutralize bacteria and remove mineral deposits. After completing the washing cycle, carefully wipe the seals with water and vinegar.

Prevention and routine care

The best way to prevent mold issues is through regular washing machine maintenance. It's important to leave the door open after each wash and remove the clothes immediately when the cycle ends. It's also a good practice to frequently clean the detergent drawer and filters to prevent dirt buildup.

To neutralize unpleasant odors, consider running an empty wash cycle with half a quart of vinegar once a month. This will help keep the washing machine clean.
