Putin pauses military actions for Victory Day truce
Vladimir Putin has announced another temporary suspension of military actions, scheduled to take place from May 8 to May 10. This pause is linked to the Victory Day celebrations.
Many pieces of information provided by Russian and Belarusian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the informational warfare conducted by the Russian Federation.
"By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and based on humanitarian considerations, on the days of the 80th anniversary of Victory, the Russian side is declaring a ceasefire," the Kremlin stated.
Victory Day, a national holiday commemorating the end of World War II, is celebrated on May 9 in Russia and other places.
"During this period, all military operations will be suspended," it was emphasized.
The Kremlin reiterated its call for Ukraine to "follow this example." Once more, the Russians noted that if the ceasefire is violated by Ukrainians, the armed forces will provide "an adequate and effective response."
"The Russian side once again declares its readiness for peace talks without preconditions, aiming to address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as for constructive cooperation with international partners," said a statement from the Kremlin.
This is yet another instance where Moscow announces a temporary ceasefire. Recently, Putin declared an "Easter truce" during the holidays, but the Russians themselves did not comply with it.
In January 2023, the Russian authorities announced a "Christmas truce." However, the fighting did not cease.
According to experts, Putin's moves are simply attempts to convince US President Donald Trump of Moscow's openness to peaceful actions. So far, the Kremlin has not adhered to its own declared "silence" on the front line.
