Poland-Ukraine strengthen defense ties amidst war challenges
- Poland has long cooperated with Ukraine in the production of weapons and ammunition, said the head of the Polish embassy in Kiev, Piotr Łukasiewicz, in an interview with the Ukrainian service zn.ua. The diplomat added that a Ukrainian defense industry facility has been established in Poland.
Łukasiewicz mentioned that the Polish and Ukrainian defense industries also cooperate in the production of drones, tank repair, and development in high-tech areas.
When asked about the Ukrainian defense facility that is supposed to operate in Poland, the diplomat responded that he could not provide details.
- Some countries that declare such cooperation, like the construction of a factory for military equipment production, are geographically located far from Russia. And since nothing threatens them, they can talk about it. We are situated very close (to Russia - ed.). Geography is very important in this context - emphasized Łukasiewicz in the interview with zn.ua.
Terrible situation for Ukrainians on the frontline
Meanwhile, the year 2024 ends for Ukraine with significant territorial losses, logistical problems, and continuous personnel shortages in frontline units. The last three months have been especially challenging for the Ukrainian army since the spring of 2022.
Quick efforts to salvage the situation have made little impact: in November, Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi became the new Commander of the Land Forces, and a month earlier, a plan was announced to mobilize another 160,000 soldiers, which is expected to meet the most urgent needs.
Without further radical actions, the situation may become even worse. The only question is whether the authorities and citizens are ready for more sacrifices. As the war drags on, with increasing losses and further setbacks, support for continuing it is declining. The year 2025 could be crucial for the future of the fight in the southeastern part of the country. It could end with the Russians occupying the entire Donbas.
