Pilot's quick response saves flight from spider scare
There were dramatic moments during Friday's flight of an Iberia Airlines Airbus A320 from Düsseldorf to Madrid. A venomous spider attacked the pilot onboard, and a tarantula bit the allergic pilot. Fortunately, he was quickly given medication, and the flight ended successfully.
According to Metro, the incident occurred on Friday, February 21, during an Iberia Airlines Airbus A320 flight from Düsseldorf, Germany, to Madrid. A tarantula—a venomous, hairy spider that inspires fear just by its appearance—was found in the aircraft cockpit.
Tarantula bites pilot on the plane
It appears the spider entered the plane during a stopover in Casablanca earlier last week. It got into the cockpit and bit the pilot, who needed immediate medication due to his allergy to the spider venom. He was given medication to reduce inflammation and symptoms related to allergic reactions.
Luckily, the aircraft safely reached Madrid. However, passengers scheduled to fly to Vigo on the same plane for the next leg had to wait an additional three hours. The plane had to be disinfected to remove any bacteria that might have entered the tiny, hairy intruder.
Despite this, anxiety lingered as passengers reportedly continued to watch out for any other such creatures onboard. Fortunately, everything ended well; the pilot underwent treatment and is now feeling fine.
