American Airlines flight lands in Rome after bomb threat scare
An American Airlines flight from New York to New Delhi made an emergency landing in Rome due to a bomb threat. There were 199 people on board.
The American Airlines plane, flying from New York to New Delhi, had to make an emergency landing at Fiumicino Airport in Rome.
The reason was an email message about explosives on board, reports Reuters. The alarm turned out to be false, but the landing decision was necessary for the passengers' safety.
After receiving the warning, the plane was escorted by two Italian Eurofighter jets. The aircraft landed safely, and the passengers were evacuated for inspection. Luggage was thoroughly checked by special services.
American Airlines reported that flight 292 underwent a detailed inspection by the appropriate authorities. After a few hours, when no threats were detected, the plane was able to continue its journey. However, the flight to Delhi was rescheduled for the next day due to the crew's need to rest.
A spokesperson for Rome-Fiumicino Airport assured that the airport operated normally despite the incident. Passengers had to disembark for the inspection, but the situation was fully under control.
Investigation into the false alarm
The police are investigating to determine the identity of the person who sent the false alarm. The perpetrator will face financial consequences related to the emergency landing and flight delay.
