Before O.J. Simpson became a defendant in a murder trial involving his wife and her friend, he was celebrated as an athlete and an actor. On April 10, news around the world announced that the 76-year-old had died. The cause of death for the former American football star, whose trial captivated America, has been revealed.
Orenthal James Simpson was a National Football League (NFL) sensation before his court appearances, playing for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers. Despite his ten-year career in the league, he never clinched a Super Bowl victory. After retiring from sports, he found success as a commentator.
Leveraging his fame, Simpson ventured into acting. He appeared in "The Towering Inferno" alongside Steve McQueen while still playing football. However, he is best known for his role in the comedy series "Naked Gun" as the somewhat oblivious detective Nordberg.
O.J. Simpson returned to the spotlight when he was accused of murdering his 35-year-old wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman in Los Angeles. The highly publicized trial, which lasted 11 months, concluded with his acquittal, sparking widespread controversy.

On March 10, it was widely reported that the former American football icon had passed away at the age of 76. Leading up to his death, there had been speculation about his declining health. Simpson's family disclosed his death, citing cancer as the cause.
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace." the statement read.
Michael Lavergne, Simpson's lawyer, confirmed to "E!" magazine that Simpson died following a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. Interestingly, just a few months before his death, Simpson had refuted rumours concerning his health, including claims of being in hospice care. "Hospice? You're talking about hospice? No, I am not in any hospice.I don't know who put that out there," he remarked in a video released in February.
